Church Work vs. Church Attendance

So, I have one simple question. Is it possible to work at one church while attending another? How have we seen that work, and how have we seen that not work?

Is that type of system healthy?

  1. I think it depends on your job at the church. If you are a childcare worked you may need to go to church somewhere else in order to get feed because you are in the nursery every service. I think if you are in a pastorial postition you need to be in attendence. You need to know the people to serve them and they need to know you to trust you to lead.

  4. Well, my only real experience with that was when we had a Youth Pastor (when I was in Jr. High) who continued attending a different church and calling it "home." He didn't last long. This didn't work because he was only at our church as a missionary, of sorts, and never did buy in to the larger vision of our congregation. I guess that's perhaps the largest issue here. If you haven't bought in to the larger vision of the church (even if it's changing)and if you can't call it home, then you probably shouldn't be there anyway. But if you have bought in, then why would you attend somewhere else? If it is just for fellowship/companionship/support outside the context of your immediate Church family, then that's a different story. But if it's because of reluctance to embrace your church as home, then it might not be healthy at all.

I know that this is an old post... but I felt like commenting anyway...
